Terms of Service
The agreement behind the app
Bet-ter is a support tool for staying accountable to your own spending — not a bank, not a gambling operator, and not a substitute for professional help. Here's what that means in practice.
The short version: use Bet-ter honestly, be 18+, and understand it's a support layer — it doesn't run official self-exclusion registries, isn't licensed financial or medical advice, and can't guarantee it will catch every transaction. If you're in crisis, contact a licensed professional or a helpline directly.
Acceptance
By creating a Bet-ter account or using the app, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
What Bet-ter is
Bet-ter connects to your bank account to detect gambling-related transactions, track your streak and risk patterns, and optionally notify a trusted contact when new activity is detected. It's a personal accountability tool.
Bet-ter is not: a bank, a lender, a licensed gambling-treatment provider, a medical or financial advisor, or an official self-exclusion registry. It doesn't block transactions, freeze accounts, or prevent gambling directly — it detects and reports on activity that has already happened, based on data your bank makes available.
If you're struggling with gambling, please also reach out to a licensed professional or a dedicated helpline in your country — Bet-ter is meant to complement that support, not replace it.
Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms, and to hold or access the bank account you connect.
Your account
You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email — there's no password to manage, but you're responsible for keeping access to that email account secure. Let us know right away if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
Bank connection
Bank connections are handled through Plaid, a third-party service. By connecting your account, you also agree to Plaid's own end-user terms. We rely on Plaid and your bank for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of transaction data — we can't guarantee that every transaction, or every gambling transaction specifically, will be detected or classified correctly, including because a merchant's name doesn't clearly indicate gambling, or because of a delay or outage on your bank's or Plaid's side.
Self-exclusion feature
Bet-ter links you to official, government- or operator-run self-exclusion programs for your country. We don't operate, control, or verify enrollment in any of these programs — confirming you've self-excluded inside Bet-ter is a personal record for your own tracking, not a legal enrollment, and has no effect on any external registry.
Trusted contact
If you choose to add a trusted contact, you're responsible for having their permission to share their name and email with us and to have us email them on your behalf. Don't add someone without their knowledge. You can remove a trusted contact at any time, which stops all future notifications to them.
Demo Mode
Demo Mode lets you try every feature using sandbox test data from Plaid — no real bank, no real money, and no real gambling activity is ever involved. Any transactions you see there are simulated for demonstration purposes only.
Purchases
Any purchases or subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, using their payment systems, and are subject to their respective terms and refund policies — we don't process payments or store your payment details ourselves.
Acceptable use
- Don't use Bet-ter for any unlawful purpose, or to harass, impersonate, or harm anyone (including a trusted contact you add).
- Don't attempt to interfere with, reverse-engineer, or disrupt the app or its backend.
- Don't provide false information when connecting a bank account or adding a trusted contact.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
Disclaimers
Bet-ter is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose or that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will catch every instance of gambling activity. It does not constitute financial, legal, medical, or addiction-treatment advice.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Bet-ter and its developer are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app, including any financial loss related to gambling activity that the app failed to detect, delayed in detecting, or misclassified.
Termination
You can delete your account at any time from Settings — see the Privacy Policy for exactly what that removes. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we'll update the effective date below and, where required, notify you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Bet-ter after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. If you're an EU consumer, this doesn't take away any mandatory consumer protections you're entitled to under the law of the country where you live.
